February 6th, 2008

The New York City Chief Medical Examiner has released the findings of a toxicology report on Wednesday (February 6), revealing that a toxic combination of prescription medicines caused the death of Australian actor Heath Ledger on January 22.

Ledger’s body was found in his New York apartment by a massuse and housekeeper last month. When they found Ledger unconscious they called 911, but paramedics were unable to revive the young star.

Ellen Borakove, office spokeswoman for the Chief Medical Examiner, released a two paragraph statement explaining the cause of death.

"Mr. Heath Ledger died as a result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Diazepam, Temazepam, Alprazolam, and Doxylamine.

"We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of presecription medications. "

The combination of drugs in his system at the time of his passing include painkillers (Oxycodone and Hydrocodone – also known as Vicodin), sedatives (Diazapam – also known as Valium), sleep aids (Temazepam and Doxylamine) and depression or anxiety medication (Alprazolam – also known as Xanax).

Family and friends of the late star are making their way to Ledger’s hometown of Perth, Australia, for the 28-year-old’s funeral this weekend.
