The makers of a film about the life of slain rapper the Notorious B.I.G. have announced on Thursday (March 6) that Brooklyn rapper Jamal Woolard will play the lead role.
Christopher ‘The Notorious B.I.G.’ Wallace, who was heavily involved in the East Coast/West Coast rap rivalry that has been dividing hip hop music for decades, was shot dead by an unknown assailant on March 9, 1997.
Producers of the new movie, which is being executive produced by Wallace’s good friend Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, were looking for a relatively unknown actor who could rap to fill the role.
At an open casting call, they discovered that Woolard fit the bill.
Other actors attached to the movie, called ‘Notorious’, are Derek Luke, Angela Bassett and Anthony Mackie. It is set to be released in January 2009.
