Adam Lambert Pissed With Unofficial Album Release

June 21st, 2009

American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert is pissed.

A small independant label is releasing an album of material before his official debut is released and was recorded prior to his time on the hit show.

The first song, Want, dropped Friday (June 19) on Perez Hilton’s website, with the gossip writer claiming it was the world premiere from his new album.

This was not quite the truth.

The new album, On With The Show, is being released by Hi Fi Recordings/Wilshire Records with a statement from the label saying it’s, “it’s an album of fantastic, diverse material recorded over the course of 2007/2008, right before [his] meteoric rise to prominence… As America would expect, the music is amazing.”

However, Lambert doesn’t share the same passion for the previously unreleased songs saying,  “The work I did back then in no way reflects the music I am currently in the studio working on.

“Back in 2005 when I was a struggling artist, I was hired as a studio singer to lend my vocals to tracks written by someone else. I was broke at the time and this was my chance to make a few bucks, so I jumped at the opportunity to record for my first time in a professional studio.”

Lambert adds, “I’m thrilled to be working with some of today’s hottest songwriters and producers and can’t wait for people to hear what my music really sounds like.”

Just another person trying to ride the coat tails of the fabulous Adam Lambert ala Clay Aiken, Perez Hilton etc ad nauseum. Anything for a quick buck in this economy. If the producer and label really thought it was so amazing, why did they not release it when it was recorded? Adam has clearly been trying to break through for long time. I say we stiff this label for failing to release it at the time it was made!

This is silly. Think about it. The reason this company didn’t release this “album” a couple years ago even though it’s so amazing is that 1) it was a demo for other singers, more well-known than Adam and 2) Adam was a complete unknown before AI. It takes an incredible amount of marketing and promotion to create a hit song/album. Secondly, put yourself in the shoes of these business owners. If you were sitting on 11-12 tracks of Adam, that you produced and paid for, got your legal matters in proper order as any good business person would do. Now, are you going to just say “I’ll not do the best thing for my company and make some money off our investment because Adam is now a big star and we don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings/expectations.” Right, you’d be saying what they said, “Wow! This is great! Get this out now so everyone can get paid! Yay!” I think it’s great news for fans, and probably not bad at all for Adam – he remains in the news, his awesome voice is being heard again, on material we haven’t heard before, and we have something to wet our collective appetite for his RCA release in the fall. Twelve songs from AI/iTunes, 12 more from Hi Fi this summer, and that many more this fall from RCA in the fall. Adam is well on his way!!
