A representative for Amy Winehouse has explained that the singer is suffering from a skin condition known as impetigo, after photos of the troubled singer have surfaced with marks on her face.
According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, impetigo - which is also known as school sores - is a highly contagious skin disorder "caused by bacterial infection and characterized by crusting skin lesions". It is prevalent among children or adults who have recently had a cold or viral infection.
"Amy has been diagnosed with impetigo, which she’s been told can be highly contagious," Winehouse’s rep confirmed.
"Because of that, she’s been put on antibiotics and may have to stay home alone for the next few days."
