Andre Agassi Admits Using Crystal Meth

October 28th, 2009

Andre agassi stef graf longinesAndre Agassi has admitted to using the hard drug crystal meth during the height of his career, during his marriage to Hollywood actress Brook Shields. It’s just one of the revelations to come out in his forthcoming autobiography, due out in November.

Andre agassi stef graf longinesAgassi, who has won eight Grand Slams throughout his career, wrote the book “Open” with the help of Pulitzer Prize-winning writer J.R. Moehringer.

In it, he describes his experiences with drugs, confirms Paul Bogaards, director of media relations at Knopf, a division of publisher Random House.

His admission will appear in excerpts of the book, which will appear in Sports Illustrated and People magazine this week.

“Those excerpts contain revelations about Andre’s use of crystal meth when he was a tennis player,” Bogaards said.

Richard Deitsch, a writer from Sports Illustrated, accidentally leaked the story today, when he reportedly tweeted:

“FYI: There’s an off-the-charts book excerpt from Andre Agassi in the forthcoming SI: He admits to taking crystal meth during his career”

The message, which New York Daily News reports was posted at 10:36 am, was removed shortly thereafter.

Agassi, 39, retired from professional tennis in 2006 after a stellar 20-year run, during which he won eight Grand Slam championships, 60 singles titles, and tens of millions in prize money and endorsements.

He divorced Brooke Shields in 1998, and married tennis great Steffi Graf in 2001. They have two children together, Jaden, 8, and Jaz, 6.

“Open: An Autobiography” is due for release on November 9.
