Conan O’Brien is bringing former side-kick Andy Richter back to late night television, with the comedian signing on as announcer for O’Brien’s new gig as host of ‘The Tonight Show’.
The pair worked together from 1993 to 2000, with Richter appearing as O’Brien’s side-kick on ‘Late Night’, before Richter left the show to focus on acting.
While Richter won’t have a nightly desk-side presence on the new show, he will be involved in live and pre-recorded comedy segments, O’Brien confirmed.
“Andy is one of the funniest people I know, and we’ve maintained a close friendship since he left ‘Late Night,’” O’Brien said.
“We have a proven chemistry that will be an incredible asset to ‘The Tonight Show.’”
Richter was the last non-musical guest on the final edition of ‘Late Night With Conan O’Brien’ last week.
Since leaving the show almost a decade ago, Richter has been the lead in two half-hour network comedies, ‘Andy Richter Controls the Universe’ and ‘Andy Barker, P.I.’ He’s also appeared in feature films ‘Talladega Nights’, ‘Blades of Glory’, ‘Semi-Pro’ and ‘Elf’.
