Members of the Malaysian Islamic opposition party have insisted that an upcoming concert from Avril Lavigne be cancelled due to the singer’s moves being deemed “too sexy.”
Kamarulzaman Mohamad, from the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party said, “It is considered too sexy for us… It’s not good for viewers in Malaysia. We don’t want our people, our teenagers, influenced by their performance. We want clean artists, artists that are good role models.”
Lavigne is due to kick off an Asian tour in Kuala Lumpur on August 29, however, permission for the concert is yet to be granted by the country’s Culture Ministry.
A meeting is scheduled for Tuesday (August 19) to make a decision on whether the concert can proceed and to consider any protests that have been lodged.

It’s a good thing it isn’t Hilary Duff or Mandy Moore performing. That would have pushed them to doing another 9/11 or a nuclear war.

Well Avril’s people are partly responsible for this mess because they have a sponsorship deal with the Malaysian mobile phone company Maxis.
At least once a day for at least 6 weeks, they have been spamming all their users sms inboxes, with promotional material. The discounts on tickets keep getting bigger but so does customer rage with all this unsolicited crap.
Fortunately I manage a rather large account with them and have managed to get all our phones off their spam list. I have also sent them other expats phone numbers to stop the spam for them.
Stupid stupid stupid. They annoyed enough people for long enough, eventually people fight back the only way they know.
Good publicity for Avril but poor choice of partnership with sms spammer.
