Billy Bob Thornton and his band The Boxmasters have canceled the remainder of their tour of Canada due to illness, two days after the actor said on radio that Canadian audiences were like “mashed potato with no gravy.”
The interview on CBC’s Q program has gathered enormous media attention, after Thornton became agitated by a statement about his acting career, with his rep claiming he, “Simply elected not to engage with the interviewer because of the direction of the interview from the outset.”
When The Boxmasters took the stage in Toronto on Thursday night (April 9), the crowd booed the band shouting, “Here comes the gravy!”
The band posted a message on their official website announcing:
“Unfortunately, The Boxmasters had to cancel the remainder of the Canadian dates with Willie Nelson and Ray Price, including Montreal and London, due to one band member and several of the crew having the flu. They will rejoin the tour on April 14th in Stamford, CT after they’ve had time to recover. We wish them a safe and speedy recovery.”

too bad the interviewer didn’t adhere to the agreement of not discussing acting. and anyway, The Boxmasters still have some great music and only two gigs were cancelled. http://www.musicnewsnet.com/2009/04/billy-bob-thornton-and-the-boxmasters-break-from-willies-canadian-tour.html

Joaquin Phoenix might be able to orchestrate a PR spoof to advance his career, but Billy Bog just isn’t cool enough to pull off something like that
