Solo star and one quarter of chart-topping hip-hoppers Black Eyed Peas, Will.I.Am, has enlisted some famous friends and produced a songtrack for one of US Presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s speeches, saying that it reminded him of "others that have fought for what we have today".
Calling the track ‘The Yes We Can Song’, Will.I.Am has called on Scarlett Johansson, Kate Walsh, John Legend, Common, Nicole Scherzinger and more to lend their voices and faces to the track, with an aim to encourage people to vote in the upcoming election.
Recorded in Los Angeles on January 30 and 31, Will.I.Am wrote about the song on his website saying, "The outcome of the last two elections has saddened me on how unfair, backwards, upside down, unbalanced, untruthful, corrupt, and just simply, how wrong the world and ‘politics’ are."
He writes that he was captivated and moved by the New Hampshire Presidential Primaries, and that Obama’s speech moved him.
"It made me think of Martin Luther King, Kennedy and Lincoln, and all the others that have fought for what we have today," he wrote.
"[It's] what America is ‘supposed’ to be… this is not the America that our pioneers and leaders fought and died for."
