Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas has lashed out against those responsible for the new Michael Jackson album, saying that it’s “disrespectful” to the late King of Pop to release his music without his blessing.
“Whoever put it out and is profiting off of it, I want to see how cold they are,” he says of the first song Breaking News. “To say that what [Michael] contributed during his life wasn’t enough. He just wasn’t any ordinary artist. He was a hands-on person. To me it’s disrespectful. There’s no honoring.”
Having worked with Michael in 2006, Will.I.Am says that MJ was a perfectionist who would never have wanted these songs released.
“Michael Jackson songs are finished when Michael says they’re finished,” he adds. “Maybe if I never worked with him I wouldn’t have this perspective. He was very particular about how he wanted his vocals, the reverb he used…he was that hands-on.”
Michael hits stores on December 14, with proceeds going to his three children.
