Troubled popstar Britney Spears was hospitalized in the early hours of Thursday morning (January 31), with sources denying that the singer attempted suicide, instead saying that she was willingly escorted to hospital after an emergency call made by Spears’ psychiatrist.

Internet reports state that Spears attempted to kill herself, however TMZ.com counters that in the psychiatrist’s phonecall to police, there was no mention of a suicide attempt.

Spears’ psychiatrist was concerned by her client’s erratic behavior during the last few days, including her public argument with her mangaer Sam Lutfi, and an incident where Spears got lost driving back to her own house, and had a photographer drive her home instead.

According to TMZ, the plan to be take Spears to hospital had been on the cards for days, but was aborted for unknown reasons on Tuesday night. At 1am on Thursday morning, Spears’ psychiatrist decided they could wait no longer for treatment and the authorities were contacted.

Spears was taken to UCLA Medical Center, where she has been put on a 5150 hold – a medical statement for those that pose a danger to themselves and others around them – where she will remain for 72 hours. This is the second time this month that she has been placed under this type of care.

Spears reportedly went willingly and was not resistant to the hospitalization, with the 26-year-old choosing to take the advice of her psychiatrist, whom she has been seeing daily in attempt to gain the confidence of the courts.

The singer’s mother, Lynne, paparazzi boyfriend Adnan Ghalib, and close friend Alli Sims all went to UCLA with Spears.
