As Britney Spears unsuccessfully attempts to regain control of her affairs with a new lawyer, Spears’ father, Jamie, has attended secret legal proceedings in a desperate bid to see his daughter, who he says is "in the throes of a mental health crisis", receive urgent medical treatment.
Mr Spears’ lawyers were in court today (February 7), however, no official information about the court proceedings has been released, with court spokesman Allan Parachini telling TMZ.com that "everything about this matter is sealed."
Mr Spears and his wife, Lynne, released a statement earlier this week, explaining that they are "deeply concerned about our daughter’s safety and vulnerability, and we believe her life is presently at risk. There are conservatorship orders in place created to protect our daughter that are being blatantly disregarded."
Spears’ father legally gained control of his daughter’s business and personal dealings as the conservator of her affairs, along with attorney Andrew Wallet, after the pair were awarded conversatorship when Britney was hospitalised and received treatment at the UCLA Medical Centre.
The hospital unexpectedly released Spears on Wednesday morning, and upon her release the young singer immediately tried to appoint as new lawyer to act as her legal representative.
She met with attorney Adam Steisand in an attempt to overturn her father’s control, however the courts have denied the request.
Streisand released a statement on Thursday (February 7) saying:
"At the request of Britney Spears, Adam Streisand, a Partner at Loeb & Loeb LLP, met with her yesterday to discuss her legal rights in connection with the conservatorship over her person and estate. Following that meeting, Mr. Streisand learned that the court had issued orders that prevent Ms. Spears from retaining counsel of her own choosing, and on that basis, Mr.Streisand has decided he will not represent her at this time."
