Once pop music’s Queen, Whitney Houston has died of unknown causes at the age of 48, her publicist told The Associated Press on Saturday (Feb 11).
In a controversial career spanning nearly 30 years, TMZ reports that Houston “won two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards… and her album “Whitney” was the first female album to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard Charts. She has sold 200 million albums world wide.”
Within minutes of the news breaking, celebrities, fans and friends of the singer took to Twitter to send out their condolences.
Mariah Carey: “Heartbroken and in tears over the shocking death of my friend, the incomparable Ms. Whitney Houston. My heartfelt condolences to Whitney’s family and to all her millions of fans throughout the world. She will never be forgotten as one of the greatest voices to ever grace the earth.”
Katy Perry: “So devastating. We will always love you Whitney, R.I.P.”
Nicki Minaj: “Jesus Christ, not Whitney Houston. Greatest of all time.”
