Reports of a multi-million dollar deal between ‘Harry Potter’ actress Emma Watson and fragrance and beauty house Chanel have been denied - in a cryptic and round-about way.

The rumors that Watson had signed a seven-figure deal spread quickly across the internet earlier this week, and although Chanel has denied the reports, their response was suspiciously vague.

“We’re not allowed to make statements when the reports are not true. It’s the company’s policy not to make a statement if the report is not true,” Chanel’s spokesperson said.

“For instance, when Audrey Tautou’s contract was leaked to the press, we issued a statement because it was true, she was being put under contract. We are only allowed to speak to reporters about this. We cannot widely release a statement that the report isn’t true.”

The nameless, faceless spokesman also explained, “I cannot be quoted. Just say company spokesman.”
