Seven months after his heated Christmas Day confrontation with wife Brooke Mueller, Charlie Sheen has pleaded guilty to third-degree domestic violence charges – but instead of heading to an Aspen jail as a previous plea deal stipulated, the Two and a Half Men star is heading to a rehabilitation center in Malibu, where he’ll work on “behavioral modification.”
Sheen has 30 days to check into rehab and he has to formally agree to the location by 5pm tomorrow.
“I’m very grateful to the court and to the people of Pitkin County,” the actor said in a statement released by rep Stan Rosenfield.
“I look forward to complying with the court’s decision, getting on with my life and putting this behind me.”
Initially, Sheen was set to spend 30 days in jail in exchange for the court dropping felony menacing and misdemeanor criminal mischief charges against him.
In June, an employee of the county’s Jail Administrative Offices, Beverly Campbell, decided that the actor didn’t quality for their system’s work release program – which would have allowed him to continue working on Men throughout his incarceration.
Sheen’s attorney Yale Galanter has now somehow negotiated a 30-day stay at celebrity rehab clinic Promises in Malibu, along with 30 days’ probation and 36 hours of domestic violence and anger management counseling.
According to a rep from CBS, Sheen is due to show up to work on the set of Two and a Half Men on Tuesday as scheduled.
