Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to charges of assault causing great bodily injury and making criminal threats against Robyn Fenty (Rihanna) on Monday afternoon (April 6). Read what Rihanna’s lawyers had to say after the jump.
Brown arrived at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice just before 3:30 PT, joined by his mother and four bodyguards and dressed in a black suit, before heading directly inside.
Attorney Mark Geragos stood by the 19-year-old’s side when he told the judge “not guilty, your honor” during the brief appearance before a new court date of April 29 was set.
Rihanna’s attorney Donald Etra addressed the media following the court appearance saying, “What happened this afternoon is what we fully expected.”
“Rihanna’s position is the same… she will do everythng the law requires her to do,” he added.
When asked if lawyers for the former couple were holding discussions, Etra explained, “I believe that there is efforts to try to resolve the case prior to a preliminary hearing and a trial.”
He continues, “It is not up to her (Rihanna) to decide what kind of deal she wants, that’s up to the District Attorney to decide… at this time it is very premature to decide what her position would be.”
“She would be pleased if this was over quickly,” he said.
If convicted on both counts, Brown faces up to four years and eight months in jail.
