Chris Martin has attacked a paparazzi photographer, after the snapper offered up his congratulations to Martin following unconfirmed reports that his wife, actress Gwyneth Paltrow, was expecting a baby.

Paltrow was hospitalised in New York on Monday night (January 14) with her publicist, Stephen Huvane, stating that the medical matter was "personal".

The actress ignored questions from the waiting paparazzi as she exited the facility ahead of her husband early on Tuesday morning.

Shortly thereafter, Martin – frontman of British band Coldplay – exited, with one cameraman rushing to offer his congratulations to the singer in an attempt to get confirmation of the potential baby news.

However, Martin reacted by grabbing the lens-man, pushing him to the road and telling him to "have some respect". The singer then grabbed the camera and headed to his waiting vehicle, when other paparazzi stepped in to stop him from driving away.

In a video of the incident, the fallen paparazzo promptly jumped to his feet to wrestle his camera back.

Martin returned the camera while yelling at the photog, "You’ve got to have some respect!", before climbing in his car next to Paltrow and being driven away.
