An early morning settlement has been reached in the divorce case between former supermodel Christie Brinkley and her husband Peter Cook as negotiations continued overnight.
A spokeswoman for Brinkley released a statement announcing the news saying, “After five days of trial and for the sake of their children, Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook have reached an agreement.”
Brinkley, 54, will retain full custody of the couple’s two children and ownership of 18 properties in the Hamptons, while Cook will receive a financial settlement of $2.1 million and “parenting time”.
Addressing the media after reaching the settlement Brinkley explained, “It really is the death of a marriage, but it’s also I think a new start for all of us and I’m very pleased with the results today.”
She added, “I was here fighting for custody. I think a mother’s greatest fear is somebody trying to take her children, trying to take custody of her children. That’s what I was up against. And so I’ve won custody and decision-making, and that’s all I ever wanted.”
The couple split after Cook revealed he had an affair with his 18-year-old assistant and had an addiction to internet pornography spending $3,000 a month online.
