US Talk show host Conan O’Brien has said he will pay the salaries of his staff next week, to avoid any staff layoffs in the wake of the ongoing writer’s strike.
O’Brien’s show ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien’ has been off the air since the writers strike began on November 5.
Until this week, the show’s owner NBC has been paying the staff salaries, however they have not confirmed whether they will continue to pay employees past this week.
NBC representative Rebecca Marks confirmed the comedian’s handout, saying ‘He’s paying the staffers’ salaries out of his own pocket.”
O’Brien is not the only one to fork out his own money to keep his staff employed throughout the strike, with fellow late night host David Letterman promising his team continued payment through December for his show, ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’, and his other production, ‘Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson’.
