Attorneys for Katie Holmes announced Friday (June 29) that she is divorcing Tom Cruise, her husband of six years.

“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” Jonathan Wolfe, acting on Holmes’ behalf, told PEOPLE. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”

Cruise’s statement put the blame on his wife.

“Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children,” a statement from his rep said.  ”Please allow them their privacy.”
