Country star Kenny Chesney has crushed his foot while onstage in South Carolina on Saturday night (April 26), but made the decision to keep performing, saying in a statement that "there was no way I wasn’t going on."

Chesney caught his foot between the stage and a lift that elevated him up during an equipment malfunction as his show kicked off in Columbia at the Williams-Brice Stadium.

The singer’s foot was trapped for about 30 seconds, but he carried on the show regardless, limping and holding his knee.

"I took one look at those fans, and there was no way I wasn’t going on," Chesney explained in a statement.  "Sometimes the energy and the adrenalin pull you through."

"They had come to rock, and there was no way I was sending them home with anything less than the best of what me and my guys came to do - put it all out there and give them back at least as good as they gave us."
