David Letterman Looking To Step Down After 2010

September 3rd, 2008

David Letterman has hinted he will step down from his hosting role of ‘The Late Show’ sometime after 2010 seeing out his current contract with CBS, however, he says he won’t go “much beyond” the end of the decade.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Letterman explained, “The way I feel now, I would like to go beyond 2010, not much beyond, but you know, enough to go beyond. You always like to be able to excuse yourself on your own terms.”

With his late-night rival Jay Leno being pushed from his chair on ‘The Tonight Show’ in May next year and Conan O’Brien moving into the earlier time slot, Letterman says he’ll continue provided his bosses are pleased.

“If the network is happy with that, great. If they wanna make a change in 2010, you know, I’m fine with that, too,” he says.
