Debbie Rowe Will Not Attend Michael Jackson Memorial

July 7th, 2009

Debbie Rowe’s attorney released a statement Monday (July 6) saying that she has changed her mind about attending this week’s memorial of Michael Jackson, as she didn’t want to become an “unnecessary distraction.”

Marta Almli, Rowe’s attorney, told ABC’s Good Morning America, “Debbie will continue to celebrate Michael’s memory privately.”

He adds, “The onslaught of media attention has made it clear her attendance would be an unnecessary distraction to an event that should focus exclusively on Michael’s legacy.”

The service, set down for 10:00am on Tuesday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, will be a star-studded affair with 17,500 tickets handed out in a lottery drawn over the weekend.

“Debbie will continue to celebrate Michael’s memory privately,” Almli said.
