Debbie Rowe’s lawyer has fired off a terse email to the New York Post, demanding the retraction of a story claiming that Michael Jackson’s ex accepted $4 million to walk away from her kids with the King of Pop.
The letter, issued by Eric M. George of Brown Woods George LLP, states:
“Dear Editor:
This letter constitutes a demand for an immediate retraction of the story you carried today entitled “DEBBIE ROWE DROPS CUSTODY FIGHT; $4M Mother Lode for Michael Jackson Ex.”
“Among the several contenders for overzealous and inaccurate sensationalism, the New York Post has now seized top honors. It would be easier to identify those few background facts that are accurate than to catalog the number of blatant falsehoods in your story.
Particularly insidious is your misrepresentation that Ms. Rowe has accepted money to give up custody rights. That statement is unequivocally false:
There has been no agreement reached between Ms. Rowe and the Jacksons;
Ms. Rowe has not and will not “giv[e] up her parental rights”;
No determination has been reached concerning custody or visitation; and
Ms. Rowe has not accepted – and will not accept – any additional financial consideration beyond the spousal support she and Michael Jackson personally agreed to several years ago.
Your story can only have been concocted with reckless disregard for the truth. Moreover, for a paper to disseminate so blatant a falsehood when young children are involved is particularly reprehensible.
I look forward to your prompt retraction.
Sincerely,
Eric M. George”
