New Director For Twilight Sequel Confirmed

December 14th, 2008

Summit Entertainment has officially confirmed that Chris Weitz will take over as director on the next movie in the ‘Twilight’ series, called ‘New Moon’.

Catherine Hardwicke, the director of the first film, had to pull out of the sequel due to time constraints, leaving Summit on the hunt for a new director.

Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production, said in a statement Saturday (December 13) that Weitz, “has a proven track record working with a broad range of material dealing with youth-oriented characters, fantasy and action. As such, he has the potential to bring alive in New Moon’ the dimensions and depth that fans will demand in the next installment.”

‘Twilight’, based on the successful book series by Stephenie Meyer, has made over $142 million at the US box office since its release on November 21, with the sequel expected to hit cinemas in late 2009.
