Elle Macpherson Threatens Legal Action Over False Story

Elle Macpherson has threatened legal action against any members of the media who report a rumor she is in a relationship with Brian Burgess, “emphatically” denying any allegations of a romantic involvement.
Photos of the former supermodel and Burgess, who served time in Australia in 1996 for smuggling 2kg of cocaine from the US, were published in Britain’s News of the World leading to speculation of a relationship.
“Miss Macpherson emphatically denies that there is any romantic association between her and Mr. Brian Burgess,” a statement released by her attorney said.
It adds that 44-year-old Macpherson “is disappointed her friendship with Mr. Burgess has been so casually misrepresented for commercial sensationalism. Furthermore Miss Macpherson has a reasonable expectation of privacy in relation to her personal life; in the absence of a romantic element, the publication of the photograph and the innuendo created by it is a gross interference of Miss Macpherson’s rights.
“Miss Macpherson is aware of Mr. Burgess’s past conduct and also that Mr. Burgess has and continues to take significant steps towards restoring his life,” the statement continues.
“Any continued misrepresentation or invasion of privacy is likely to be the subject of legal proceeding.”
