Legendary singer Etta James has said that her recent outburst, where she said she “can’t stand” Beyonce Knowles, was not “from a vicious place”.
James told an audience in Seattle on January 28 that she was not happy with Knowles singing her classic song ‘At Last’ during Barack Obama’s inaugural ball.
“I tell you, that woman he has singing for him, singing my song, she gonna get her ass whipped,” James said to the crowd. ”I can’t stand Beyonce, she had no business up there singing… my song that I’ve been singing forever.”
However, James revealed to the New York Daily News Thursday (February 5) that she was “feeling left out of something that was basically mine, that I had done every time you look around.”
She added, “I didn’t really mean anything. Even as a little child, I’ve always had that comedian kind of attitude… That’s probably what went into it.”
Knowles recently play James in the movie ‘Cadillac Records’.

O common Etta you will always be a legend nothing is gonna change that. Please be more charitable to Beyonce. Come to think of it the photo I saw of you and Beyonce, the younger lady looked just like your grand daughter. You all had that Golden and blond look. What is more, playing one of your song at Obama’s inauguration is the stuff legend is made of.
