It’s only taken 5 years, but George Bush has finally responded to Kanye West’s verbal tirade during the 2005 telethon for Hurrican Katrina where he said, “George Bush doesn’t care about black people.”
Speaking about the slow response to the emergency situation in New Orleans, the rapper hijacked his moment in the spotlight during the telethon to attack the then President.
“That [means] ‘he’s a racist,’ ” Bush tells Matt Lauer in a new interview promoting his memoirs. “And I didn’t appreciate it then. I don’t appreciate it now… I resent it, it’s not true, and it was one of the most disgusting moments in my presidency.”
When the Today Show host questioned Bush asking, “You’re not saying that the worst moment in your presidency was watching the misery in Louisiana, you’re saying it was when someone insulted you because of that?”
Bush responded, “No — that — and I also make it clear that the misery in Louisiana affected me deeply as well. There’s a lot of tough moments in the book. And it was a disgusting moment, pure and simple.”
We await your response Mr. West…
