Star Wars director George Lucas is working on a new film, Red Tails - a World War II epic that Lucas says has been two decades in the making – and he’s just signed Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard to the cast.
Red Tails will be an action-adventure flick that centers on the young fighters from WWII who overcame racial barriers to fight as the Tuskegee Airman.
Lucas tells E!, “I’ve been wanting to do Red Tails for 20 years, and we’ve finally got the means to showcase the skill of the Tuskegee pilots.”
He continues, “We’re working on techniques which will give us the first true look at the aerial dogfighting of the era.”
The surprising news is that Lucas will not be directing the film; instead, he is passing that honor on to Anthony Hemingway, whose previous experience has consisted of directing episodes for Heroes, The Closer and True Blood, among others.
Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard join fellow actors Bryan Cranston, Ne-Yo, Method Man, Tristan Wilds and Nate Kelley on the cast.
Filming for Red Tails will begin shortly throughout Europe.
