Glee’s resident bad boy Noah “Puck” Puckerman may rock his mohawk with attitude, but the actor behind the hairstyle is ready to shave off his character’s signature style. Mark Salling – who shaved his head into a mohawk just prior to auditioning for the show – reveals, “I’m so over the mohawk, I’m not gonna lie – I hate the mohawk!”
It turns out that 27-year-old Salling first adopted the distinctive style a few months before his Glee audition, and he shaved it again just before auditioning for the musical comedy show in an attempt to look ten years younger – after all, his Glee character is a high school student!
(As a side note – teacher Will Schuester is played by 31-year-old actor Matthew Morrison on the show, so there’s only a few years separating teachers from students.)
Producers thought the confident hairstyle was appropriate for his jock character, so now Salling is stuck with the cut.
“It was cool for a while, but I’ve had it for like a year, you know I’m kind of over it,” Salling says.
During a recent hiatus, Salling promptly shaved his head so he could roam about hawk-free off-set. “I feel better when I don’t have it,” he says.
