Blink 182 has pulled out of their Saratoga, New York concert Monday (August 31), due to the “circumstances surrounding the unfortunate and untimely passing of our dear friend Adam ‘DJ AM’ Goldstein.”
Performances by Weezer, Taking Back Sunday and Chester French were set to continue as planned along with “some special surprises,” Blink 182 said in a statement.
“We thank all of our fans for their support in this tough time,” the statement read.
Bassist Mark Hoppus tweeted, “Saratoga, our sincerest apologies that we have to cancel tonight. We didn’t know until late this afternoon. Statement to come soon.”
Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker had been a fellow survivor with Goldstein of a plane crash last year, and over the weekend posted a Twitter message about his friend’s shock passing of a drug overdose.
“I’ll never forget everything we’ve been thru and every time I play the drums I’ll think of you,” he wrote.
“My brother is gone. I love u and miss u, I’ll never forget all the good times we had.”
On stage in Hartford, Conn. on Saturday night (August 29), Hoppus told the crowd, “This night is really hard for us on stage. We lost a dear friend yesterday. His name was Adam Goldstein. You probably know him as DJ AM. He was an innovator and a genius and he loved music more than anything else. Above all he was a dear friend.”
All three band members broke down in tears throughout the show, and Hoppus added, “We are doing our very best to get through this show, but right now it’s very hard.”
