Harry Potter Author Fights Rip-Off Books

April 14th, 2008

Author J.K Rowling is set to appear in a New York court on Monday in an attempt to stop the publication of ‘The Harry Potter Lexicon’, an unauthorized fan book and encyclopedia based on her best-selling children’s book series.

Steve Vander Ark has created the 400-page book along with a fan website, prompting both Rowling and Warner Bros. to sue to prevent the book from going any further.

Rowling stated in a declaration earlier this year that the she feels "intensely protective, firstly, of the literary world I spent so long creating, and secondly, of the fans who bought my books in such large number."

The author has said that she is planning on putting together her own Harry Potter encyclopedia, with proceeds to be donated to charity, and requests that Ark’s "rip-off" ceases publication. She has sought damages for copyright infringement.
