"That’s what all of his friends are saying. They are totally devastated by losing someone who gave them so much. He gave everyone so much. I have only good memories of him."
Christensen, who was on her way to visit him when she learned of his death last month, had been romantically linked to the Australian actor after his break-up from fiance Michelle Williams in 2007. However, she insisted they had always been “just friends”.
The supermodel said her eight-year-old son Mingus had been helping her cope over the past two weeks.
"Time passes. It doesn’t make it easier, but you try to do the best you can. When you have a child, they kind of bring you back to the moment in a really comforting way," she said.
Christensen was unable to attend Saturday’s memorial service in LA, which was attended by Lindsay Lohan, Naomi Watts, Gemma Ward and Ellen DeGeneres.
"Because I had my son, I couldn’t leave [New York]," she said.
"But everyone said it was very moving and it was an amazing way to say goodbye to him."
Ledger’s family will hold a private funeral for him in his home town of Perth this weekend.
