Rock Star: INXS winner J.D. Fortune has revealed that he was unexpectedly booted out of the band at a Hong Kong airport – and he is now homeless, broke, and living out of his car.
The Canadian singer shot to fame in 2005 after winning the INXS reality TV show, but has revealed to Canada’s Entertainment Tonight that he’s now homeless, and trying to launch a solo career.
“I don’t know where I am going from sofa to sofa, from night to night. I am trying to get through my life,” he says.
“I was in an airport at Hong Kong and literally got a handshake. They said, “Thank you very much”. I found myself really alone because I had travelled with these guys for 23 months.”
Fortune, 35 – whose real name is Jason Dean Bennison – says he kept the story from his family and friends, and admits that his departure from INXS may have had something to do with his excess drug use.
During his time with the band, he was a cocaine user. “It got as bad as it needed to be for me to numb out the fact that I knew this was going to come to a screeching halt,” he says, adding that he’s now been off drugs for two years.
He now hopes for a comeback as a solo singer, with the release of his new album, ‘The Death of a Motivational Speaker’.

Rock on JD!!!
You are an awesome talent and if they are too stupid to see that then, that’s there bad luck. Spineless pricks they are not telling the fanbase themselves what they have done!
UNAustralian!

Inxs basically did nothing to help Michael Hutchence even though they knew he was damaged from the mugging accident, he died a poor man with not a penny in his name for his own child.
They basically fucked Jon Stevens over with not writing new material, making him the singer and then going on the rockstar thing
Then they paid Fortune $50,000 in year 1 on a salary for going on tour, he co-wrote 3 songs with them which were hit singles and I doubt he was paid the royalities, and of course he sang on the whole album and I doubt he was paid anything there.
They show up at an airport and say ‘see ya later’
To top it off, Bob Geldoff wanted to change Tiger Lilly’s last name from Hutchance to Geldoff and Andrew Farriss refused to say anything knowing he could have been a voice of reason.
Inxs is dead.

I’m sure INXS was approached by reality tv film folks, and thinking it was going to be great, they sign on and “look for a new singer”… the idea backfires when their new frontman binges on coke, so of course they;’re going to dump him – think they wanna relive another episode of “lead singer dies”? Go figure JD goes back to what he knows best – couch surfing. I can see him now, living from one hotel room to the next as he tries to push his own record… g’luck with that – let me know how that goes…

JD is sober, not only from Cocaine, but from the ghosts of band past. Just think what he went through. They wheeled him into Hutchence’s afterglow to save their skin and fill their pockets. It’s time for him to save his own and shed light on what’s his, his voice. Still lots of performing talent in him I have no doubt ! Amongst the living is quite a start, more than I can say for the rest of the band. God Bless everyone.

JD’s new album speaks miles. He certainly has grown from this whole experience and his fans are behind him 100%, making certain he does not end up like the beloved M.H. Rock & Roll is for the strong in Heart and Soul. It’s all Pretty after the show !

Truth is that JD is a Star. The shoes were huge for anyone to fill and yet he did it. INXS had a hard time with MH going solo in the middle of their career and towards the end of his life as he was planning to leave the band. Let’s face it, anybody else replacing MH would not have made it this far and past relationships with the band proves it. JD might have had it rough … while raising from the dead …. so let his music stream !

Not so much as anxious, but more like waiting to see what someone like himself can bring to the table. Of course he’s going to get panned or given kudos. Either way, he isn’t with INXS, he was left at the airport, and uhm… yeah. Like he said. Someone advanced him cash, to make this album, let’s see what he does. Prove me that humans can wake up one day here on this planet and get a brainstorm that works in their best interests. Cheers dude. Pass or fail, we all live for a set and then kick it in. Rock On!
