First Iron Man 2 Photo Released

May 1st, 2009

This is the first picture of Robert Downey Jr. on the set of Iron Man 2 which is currently in production and co-stars Scarlett Johansson and Mickey Rourke.  Director Jon Favreau talks about the pressures of filming a follow up to one of last year’s biggest blockbusters after the jump.

In an chat with USA Today, Favreau says that the sequel allows him to explore the lead character of Tony Stark more, as his true identity has been revealed.

“How many superheroes are open about their true identities?” Favreau asks.  “We wanted to play with that idea.  But it obviously has consequences… There are a lot of areas we can explore.”

Favreau has been keeping fans up-to-date with the latest on-set happenings via Twitter, with posts like, “New on set practical suit is a marked improvement. Much lighter and less restrictive. Downey looks great in it.”

However, with great success comes much anticipation that the cast and crew can recreate the magic of the original.

“I really enjoyed when we were a dark horse and no one knew much about us,” Favreau says of making the first Iron Man.  “I hope we can find that place again.”
