‘Jackass’ star Steve-O is recovering well after being admitted to a psychiatric ward over fears that he was suicidal, according to his co-star Chris Pontius.
Steve-O, whose real name is Stephen Glover, was admitted to the Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center last week and placed in psychiatric care. He was charged with cocaine possession just a week prior, after police were called to his house to deal with complaints that he was vandalising his neighbour’s property.
Pontius, who is currently promoting his new DVD ‘Jackass 2.5 Uncut’, told BANG Showbiz that Glover’s hospitalization did not come as a shock, but said he is “doing great” now.
"I haven’t spoken to him, but he is doing really good. He is doing great. I think to be on ‘Jackass’, everybody has got to be kind of crazy, and we all hang out together and we don’t really think about it,” Pontius said.
"It didn’t come as a shock, no. Everybody’s sanity on ‘Jackass’ is like a progressive illness. Everybody is getting crazier and crazier."
Pontius, 33, believes Glover’s drug use is symptomatic of deep-rooted psychological problems, saying, "I think when people are abusing drugs it is probably a symptom of a bigger problem that they need to address. And that is what Steve-O is doing at the moment, getting to the root of it."
Pontius added that the ‘Jackass’ crew are planning a huge welcome home party for their daredevil colleague when Glover leaves the facility. "Nothing is ever going to be sedate and quiet with us."
