Janet Jackson Splits With Record Label

Janet Jackson announced on Monday (Spetember 22) that she has split with Island Def Jam, after recording only one album for them.

The break comes following lackluster sales of Jackson’s ‘Discipline’ album earlier this year, with the singer’s rep releasing the following statement:

“At her request, the record label has agreed to dissolve their working relationship.

“Now more than 20 years after the release of her iconic album, Control, Janet will have autonomy over her career, without the restrictions of a label system.”

Jackson is currently performing her ‘Rock Witchu’ tour across the U.S.
