Janet Jackson has dispelled rumors that she’s about to marry her long-time partner, music producer Jermaine Dupri, while on the red carpet for her new movie "Why Did I Get Married?".
Jackson and Dupri have been together since 2001. Jackson told US TV show Extra this week that "I don’t need a piece of paper to validate what we have. That’s just me though."
When asked if she had any marriage advice for couples, Jackson added, "Don’t ask me that question. You want to ask somebody who’s been married twice and divorced twice?"
Jackson has previously been married to James DeBarge in 1984 at the age of 18, and again to Rene Elizondo Jr. in 1991 in a secret ceremony that wasn’t revealed until well after the couple had divorced in 2001.
While on the red carpet, Jackson also discussed her highly-publicized battle with her weight, saying, "I could not believe how big I was, how heavy I really was. I would see myself in the mirror, but I wouldn’t look to often. I didn’t want to get used to that image."
The 41-year-old confirmed that, "I’m writing a book on my journey of weight loss and weight gain. I’m really coming from the soul with it, and what I was going through at different times in my life and what possibly brought it about for myself."
