A rep for Jennifer Hudson has confirmed that the singer’s mother and brother were found shot dead on Friday (October 24) in their Chicago home, with police saying it appears to be the result of domestic abuse.
“We can confirm that there is an ongoing investigation concerning the deaths of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, and her brother, Jason Hudson,” Lisa Kasteler, the Oscar winner’s publicist, explained in a statement. “No further comment will be made and the family has asked that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.”
According to Deputy Chief Jospeh Patterson, a family member found Donerson on the living room floor and left the scene to call the police, with officers finding Mr. Hudson shot in the bedroom.
Chicago police spokesman Officer John Mirabelli said they are searching for Donerson’s missing 7-year-old grandson Julian King, who has possibly been abducted by a man identified as William Balfour, 27.
Balfour is considered armed and dangerous with a previous history of violence.
Hudson recently released her debut self-titled album, currently in the US Top 5, with the single ‘Spotlight’ sitting at number 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs.
