Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel jokingly threatened his boss during a presentation at the Television Critics Association on Wednesday (July 16), after he posed as a journalist in the media section.
Kimmel’s employers at ABC have expressed interest in having fellow late night talk show host, Jay Leno, join their network once his contract expires with NBC at the end of this year.
Addressing the media, ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson said, “I can’t believe they’re (NBC) going to let this guy go at the top of his game. If that happens, we’ll look at it at the time and Jimmy will be involved in those discussions.”
Kimmel, posing as a reporter from Sarasota, Florida, joked with his boss asking, “If you were even to talk to Jay Leno, wouldn’t that be like contract tampering? Wouldn’t that be illegal? Couldn’t you go to jail for that?”
He added, “Are you at all afraid that if you do replace Jimmy Kimmel he might do something crazy to you or your car?”
McPherson says that he is “hugely supportive” of Kimmel’s show and acknowledged that “his show has just exploded this year. He’s done an amazing job.”
