Joaquin Phoenix has been forced to cancel an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival due to the stomach flu, his rep confirmed on Tuesday (May 20).
The actor was due at the premiere of his new movie ‘Two Lovers’ on Monday, however, doctors recommended Phoenix visit a hospital prior to visiting the festival.
Susan Patricola, the 33-year-old’s rep, told People.com that, "Joaquin has the stomach flu. He had his dog boarded, his tux in hand but couldn’t even sit on the plane. He did go to the hospital to get hydrated, hoping he could get on the plane but he didn’t stay there. He was so sick – and so sorry he couldn’t be there with everyone."

Joaquin is sick — that his new CD is not ready and he is sickened by the idea of answering constant questions. No one no matter how “pathetic and pretentious” (as he calls himself) would put their dog thru that flight for only 4 days = proof

PS If it were true he would have announced in time for the premiere yesterday, by which time he already would have arrived there!
