John Mayer Opens Up About Jennifer Aniston Split

August 17th, 2008

John Mayer has opened up about the break-up of his relationship with Jennifer Aniston, saying she is the “most sophisticated person I think I’ve ever met.”

Talking about his romance with the former ‘Friends’ star for the first time, Mayer opened up to OK! magazine in New York City on Saturday (August 16).

“There’s no lying there’s no cheating. There’s no nothing,” Mayer explains.  “People have different chemistry, they have different lives. It’s not about years, it’s about going out with somebody, being truthful on the way in, being truthful in the middle and being truthful on the way out.

“You’re either a cheater or you break up and I’m not the first, I’m the second. And that’s it. There’s no lying, there’s no bullsh*t.”

Rumors have circulated about the reason for the split and who called it off, with Mayer revealing, “I ended a relationship because there was no lying. I ended a relationship to be alone because I don’t want to waste somebody’s time if something’s not right. I don’t waste people’s time.”

Despite the split, the musician has kind words for his ex saying, “Jennifer Aniston is the smartest, most sophisticated person I think I’ve ever met.”

  1. Jaga Says:

A mature man would have made no comment, and if he did, he would have said, “It was mutual. We’re both at different places in our lives and careers.” Mayer, the consumate egotist, had to say he was the one wanting out – after rumors arose that ‘she dumped him.’ The truth is he was never in Jennifer Aniston’s league. She has more class in her little finger than he has in his entire body. He and Brad Pitt are both losers and look like they haven’t bathed in weeks.

  2. Nancy Says:

Exactly Jaga! He wanted to make sure that everyone knew he was the dumper and not the dumpee. I can’t stand the guy now.

  3. Maria Says:

Same sentiment here. Still a boy, immature and egotistical. He made sure he appears as the dumper. Lost all respect for this boy. I believe Jennifer made the first move and he can’t take that. I’m glad Jennifer still has her head inspite of being so much in love.

  4. James Says:

He thinks by paying her compliments, it makes it all right. It’s clear that he needs a lot of growing up to do. If he felt the tabloids were wrongfully accusing him of cheating he could have said “I did not cheat.” Period.

Good guitar player or not; doesn’t mater when you have no class.

You’re either a cheater or you break up and I’m not the first, I’m the second. In other words I need to see someone else.

This is the first of JA’s PR Shows that doesn’t have her coming out looking good. He’s just not as sophisticated – in other words trained liar – as she and her other famous PR stuntmen have been in the past. I’m quite glad he isn’t as ‘sophisticated’.

it must suck to be jennifer anniston!!!

  7. No talent, no class he is Says:

He has been a fame crazed boy and he needs the attention. He denies too much that means he has been actually dumped. Aniston has bad choice of men. Her ex husband ends up with a lunatic woman, who also craves for publicity. She recently has gone through garbage bag of men to do exactly the same. She is more or less falling down to the same path. This scandalous affair did more damage to her image and career. She could have had a decent, stable, committed guy but she chose to be with this immature boy. She totally lacks judgement. If they thought they were together like that to advance their career, they made a fool of themselves. After this, the public lost respect for both of them already.
So good luck with whatever they think they can achieve.

  8. Leigh Says:

Haha… so goes life in Hollywood. I have no sympathy for her, on any counts. She’s two yrs. older than I, and if she was that sophisticated, she’d have made better choices, by age almost forty. Her men, and by enlarge her movie role choices… lack depth and sophistication. Sorry, Jenny.
