Judd Apatow Not Directing Ghostbusters 3

March 6th, 2009

Rumors swirling the internet claiming Judd Apatow, responsible for producing the hit comedy movies Knocked Up and Superbad, is heading up the third flick in the Ghostbusters franchise are false, a rep for Sony has revealed.

With a script currently being penned by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg from tv’s The Office and some of the origianl film’s creative team on board, reports that Apatow had signed up grew louder as word of the new project spread.

“It’s not true,” Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures, told the LA Times. “We have some great new writers working on a new script, but Judd isn’t involved.

Belgrad adds, “Judging from the frenzy on the Internet, there still seems to be plenty of interest in the idea of doing another film, so we’re certainly taking that as a good sign.”

Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis are all reported to be making a cameo in the new film.
