Katy Perry Given Music Award By Mistake

January 19th, 2009

Katy Perry was mistakenly given the Best International Song trophy at this weekend’s NRJ Awards in Cannes, before the host revealed it was actually intended for Rihanna.

The ‘I Kissed A Girl’ singer walked to the stage while Rihanna’s ‘Disturbia’ was playing, graciously accepting the trophy at the French equivelent of the Grammy Awards.

Host Nikos Aliagas told the crowd at the end of Saturday’s show (January 17) that there had been a mistake with the vote-counting, which was done online from audience participation, and the award would now go to Rihanna.

Luckily, Perry also picked up the Best International Album category for ‘One of the Boys’.
