The star of television’s ’24′, Kiefer Sutherland, has been released from jail after serving 48 days behind bars, resulting from a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) charge and probation violation.
Sutherland was released from the facility in Glendale, Los Angeles, on Monday morning at 12:05am (January 21), with the five minutes after midnight treated as his 48th day in prison.
John Balian, a spokesman for the jail, told People.com that Sutherland "looked like he was glad to be out".
Sutherland pleaded no contest in October to driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of 0.08 percent, and was sentenced to 30 days in prison, as well as 18 days behind bars for violating probation, stemming from a 2004 drunken-driving arrest.
After entering his plea, Sutherland issued a press statement saying, "[I am] very disappointed in myself for the poor judgment I exhibited recently, and I’m deeply sorry for the disappointment and distress this has caused my family, friends and co-workers."
His attorney’s negotiated a change of facility to ensure his safety, and Sutherland entered the Glendale City Jail on December 5, spending his birthday, Christmas and New Years behind bars.
