Kim Kardashian Defends Cat Photograph

Kim Kardashian has defended this pic of her holding a cat by the scruff of the neck, after her Twitter followers criticized the reality tv star for being cruel to the kitty.
“So yesterday I was doing a photo shoot with an adorable black kitty cat and I Twitpic’d this picture,” Kardashian wrote on her official blog. “I have been getting negative comments regarding the way I was holding the kitty, but rest assured, the owner and vet were on set and showed me how to pick him up. The cat was not harmed in any way and is perfectly fine! I love animals and would never do anything to harm any animals.”
Kardashian is currently on a trip to Australia to promote their telecommunications company Optus.

Mama cats pick up their kittens all the time but the scruff. My vet even holds my 10 yr old kitty by the scruff when she has to get her shots. Not a big deal, doesn't hurt them at all. Leave Kim alone haters.

Unless a person knows what they are doing – it can be extremely painful to a cat. The only reason mamas have to pick up their cats by the scruff of the neck is because they don't have any other way to pick them up. Besides it is a very disgusting picture!

Sorry, when I pick up my cat like that, they cry out. IMO, only kittens which weigh hardly anything should be held up like that. My vet has never held up any of my cats like that and let their body weight suspend in such a manner. They may restrain them that way. But if you seriously think that holding up a 17lb cat by the scruff of its doesn't hurt, then you are an idiot!

omg guys do your research grabbing a cat by the scruff of their necks its not dangerous or painful to the cat no matter age thats how vets hold cats all the time for their shots its also the safest way for a human to grab a cat that your not familiar with it keeps their claws away from you im sure that the owner and vet would not have endangered the cat in anyway by letting her carry the cat in that way….

Folks, as a vet, the issue is weight. Holding an adult cat can be harmful to the skin and underlying muscles because adult cats usually weigh eight pounds or more. Kittens weigh mere ounces and are not harmed by being carried in such a manner, but an adult cat is an entirely different case. Veterinarians only use this hold to stabilize the animal for treatment when the cat's weight is fully supported by an examining table.

No, my annoyance is not explained by the fact that I'm a vegetarian or vegan, but because I believe that a lot of people shouldn't be entitled to having pets or be allowed near animals at all. This narcississistic and vacant eyed twit is an excellent example of why. However, at least PETA's reaction for once is legitimate.

I think she is a very beautiful woman.
But I also think that holding a cat like that is wrong. My vet held never any of my 4 cats like that. He even warned me to do it because it can cause a strain to their tendon or muscles ( was not really listening) if you hold a grown dog or cat like that.
I think she did not want to hold the cat right because the cat was big enough to cover her boobs and after all that is her biggest seller.
It is a beautiful picture and it would be even better if she would have held the cat like she actually liked animals.
She should just lay off the animals. Leave them alone and there will be no trouble!!!!!

I own a cat and he's not a fully grown cat, however I love my cat and I don't hold him that way. I hold him like a baby or he just lays on me. K is beautiful but it was obvious she was holding the cat in that manner so it wouldn't cover her breasts and because she didn't want to get cat hair all over her. Sorry but K screwed up in this pic

Kim isn't the sharpest pencil in the pack but everyone needs to get off her back about the cat. I've been volunteering in cat rescue for years and there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with holding a cat this way! We do it because a cat is hardwired to instantly stop struggling and relax when it is scruffed (in case mom wanted to move it around as a kitten they instinctively do this). When a cat won't go in a carrier, scruff and drop it in butt first; when a cat starts getting wild, scruff it; when it won't relax at the vet or for some other reason and you're losing your grip, scruff it; there are lots of reasons to scruff a cat. It doesn't hurt them and in fact is really a safe thing for you and them if it's being a problem. I agree that it would have looked cuter had she held the cat but there's no need to yell about never a reason to hold a cat like that or that it's abusing the cat. Neither of those is correct. Yell at her about lots of other things but not this one!

While properly holding a cat by the scruff its neck does not hurt the animal, why the hell would she do it anyway other than try to try to look attractive or seductive in some manner (which she does not). I, as a hot-blooded and usually horny male, still cannot see what the big todo is all about with her. Her face is not much and other than the boobs, she does not have much to look at. I think what every one is forgetting is that this is not a picture about the kitty. It is a picture that shows that she can treat anything the way she wants because #1 it is not her cat, #2 she doesn't know any better, and #3 she doesn't care what the public thinks. I live in Alaska and I can tell you, if she pulled that up here, well forget it she would not make it one hour outside with my kitty.

OK, I’m a cat lover, and have had them all my life. Yes, I’ve had to use the scruff to give them meds, and sometimes to pick them up out of tight spaces. So, no…it’s not “hurting” the cat. However!….if she wanted to take a picture with the cat, how about holding the cat like most normal people. Cuddle it. Sounds like people need a little more info about the proper way to pick up ADULT cats. Yes, you can pick up KITTENS in this manner; but it is not a good idea to pick up an adult cat by the scruff of the neck. I believe Kim when she says she didn’t intend any harm; I think it’s an understandable mistake, as many people are under the impression that you can pick up adult cats this way.

I think that Kim is gorgeous but this is not a good move. I am a very beautiful women with impeccable clothing and taste and I also am the very proud and fortunate momma bear of 2 nine year old cats. I always hug them very close no matter where I am going or what I have on. I ACTUAL LOVE THEM. I have rolls and rolls of electrical tape which is a very handy and fast way to de-hair myself after I hug my babies and give then a huge kiss on the tops of their heads.
I have hands and am not a momma cat so I would never consider picking them up by the scruff of their necks. FOR SHAME! THIS IS NOT A GOOD PICTURE AND IT HONESTLY MAKE ME SAD TO SEE IT!! I am equally if not better looking, in better shape( beyond curvy and workout 2 hours daily like I am in boot camp), younger, run a very successful company in manhattan that I built from scratch, and have an MBA from Columbia University. The point is this, I do not think these comments are made by "haters" . I honestly think that they are posted by people who realize that yes, she is gorgeous but does not seem to have two brain cells to tap together to form even the most basic good idea. Thinking animals are really cute does not make you an animal lover.
I love animals and volunteer my time and money to raise awareness about the proper care and treatment of them,finding them lasting and loving stable homes, and making sure that they have love,food, and shelter while they are waiting to be adopted. I would be cuddling that kitten not holding at arms length by it's neck while I struck some lame pose !
