Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue has revealed that she fears her battle with breast cancer is not over, and still dreams of marrying and having children.
Speaking on the eve of her 40th birthday next month, the singer says that she still has regular check-ups with her doctors.
"It’s not over," she told the Sunday Mirror newspaper in Britain. "The voyage doesn’t end suddenly. That’s why it’s so difficult to talk about it.”
Minogue, who suddenly postponed her 2005 ‘Showgirl’ tour after being diagnosed with breast cancer, says that support from fans was a major source of strength throughout her illness.
"I remember one day in Paris during my treatment, when I was in a cafe on a corner – and at the time I was really glad if I could make it as far as there,” Minogue explains.
"A young man approached me and gave me a rose. He said simply: ‘Be brave. We’re thinking of you’."
The diminutive singer says that it was always her goal to perform again one day as “returning to the stage signified returning to a normal life”, and adds that she still looks forward to the idea of getting married and having children.
"It’s a difficult question, because it’s not as easy as that," she told Paris Match magazine recently.
"If it happens, it will be marvelous. I love the idea of a family. But I won’t tell myself that I absolutely have to have children to make my life complete."
Minogue also says that she has no plans to celebrate her upcoming 40th birthday, but views the landmark date in a positive way.
"I refuse to view ageing as declining because I know my life is better now," she says.
