Kylie Minogue Selling Family Property Down Under

Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue is selling the isolated island property she owns in southern Australia, which is where she spent several months recuperating with her family after breast cancer treatment in 2005.
The 221-acre property located on isolated French Island, about two hours south-east of Melbourne in Australia, includes a renovated four-bedroom home. The island has no town water, electricity or gas and is served by a ferry from the mainland several times a day.
The property is expected to fetch around AU$1.9million at sale, or US$1,769,000.
Minogue and her family first bought the secluded home about three years ago, so that the singer could spend time with her then-boyfriend, Olivier Martinez, and privately recover from treatment for breast cancer.
Property agent Hendrik Boer, from real estate agent Hocking Stuart, said he sold the Minogue’s the 50-acre property three years ago for around $400,000, he said, and they purchased a further 171 acres one year later.
He said the family had decided to sell the property because they were travelling overseas more frequently and using it less frequently.
They have spent close to $1million renovating and extending the property, including planting 1,000 trees, vegetables and vines.
French Island General Store and Cafe owner Maurice Ralph told reporters that he was surprised the family was selling, because it was a place where they could escape the limelight.
He said Minogue’s parents were regular visitors to the small community and would often come to the general store to buy meat and have a coffee, and the pop star, when she visited, would stop in for ”a cuppa and a pie”.
Ralph last saw the diminutive singer in December, when he had his photograph taken with her. “I’ve never asked her for a photograph. She asked me for a photograph,” he said.
The property is a working farm and has been maintained by a manager, with koalas and rare birds inhabiting the adjoining 171 acres.
