Lance Armstrong Not Buying Tour de France

September 25th, 2008

Lance Armstrong has revealed that he has no intention of buying the Tour de France, despite several media reports to the contrary.

The champion cyclist shot down the rumors that he is looking to buy the competition bike race – which he has won a record seven consecutive times – during an interview with Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush on Wednesday morning (September 24).

“Is there any truth to that [rumor]?” Billy asked.

“I don’t think so,” Lance replied.

“I guess you could put together the group to invest, to buy it, to put together the money, but we don’t have that kind of money. It’s obviously a huge corporation. Secondly, I don’t think they’d sell it to an American, much less a Texan.”

To set the record completely straight, he added, “It is not true that we’re looking at buying the Tour, or buying the parent company.”

Earlier this month Armstrong announced that he would return to the Tour de France, in the hopes of securing a record eighth win.

“I’m gonna be nearly 38 years old, and if I were to win again I would be by far and away the oldest person to ever win the Tour de France,” he said.

“I can’t kid myself, those things don’t lie. The good news, however, is mentally I’m very fresh, I’m ready to train hard, I’m ready to work hard, I’m ready to do whatever it takes.”
