An attorney for Coldplay has intercepted a lawsuit on behalf of the band, preventing guitarist Joe Satriani from serving the copyright infringement papers during this Sunday night’s Grammy Awards.
The guitarist claims Coldplay ripped off his 2004 song ‘If I Could Fly’ for their chart topper ‘Viva La Vida’, however, the Brit band have denied this via a post on their website.
Satriani’s lawyer, Howard King, told E! News that he won’t be serving the papers at this weekend’s ceremony.
“We were going to attempt to serve them sometime this weekend while they were in Los Angeles, the Grammys being the most obvious time. We had also considered the MusicCares event. However, we had a very fine lawyer contact us and assured us there’s no need to personally serve them. He will accept the papers on the band’s behalf.”
King adds, ”All’s well that ends well. Too bad. It would have been pretty colorful, but also would have been very challenging.”
